Senior pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11 headed to Wilson Playing Fields to take part in the inter-schools cross country competition on Thursday 5th October. Schools from across Hyndburn and Ribble Valley took part in the competition which this year has moved location to offer a more challenging course. Conditions were tough with plenty of mud to contend with as well as hundreds of fellow runners. The new courses included more in the way of hills, and some interesting forest sections to navigate!
Our Year 9 girls were first and Ellie and Juliet put in an excellent performance staying in the leading pack throughout the race, finishing in 21st and 28th place respectively. A great achievement on a tough 3km course. Alex Lutwyche represented our Year 9 boys finishing in 52nd place. Our Year 10 girls, Taylor, Isabelle and Lucy and Chloe from Year 11 were up next, tackling a 3.5km course. The girls did brilliantly in the face of tough competition. Congratulations go to Chloe for finishing 14th, Taylor 12th, Isabelle 29th and Lucy 33rd. The final race was the Year 10 and 11 boys which was planned as a 5km course but resulted in 2km due to difficulties in navigation by the front runners! Our boys James, Arthur, Tyler and Louis ran well all achieving top 50 places.
Well done to all runners who represented Oakhill with determination, and thanks too to Niall, Phoebe and Ellis from our Year 10 GCSE PE group who helped out at the event as marshalls.
