Year 4 pupils recently took a chilly journey all the way to Antarctica, without leaving Oakhill.
As part of their geography topic, All Around the World, they have been exploring different climates and environments, but this week’s visitor made the experience even more memorable.
Jason Pickles joined the class to share stories from his travels to the frozen continent. Pupils discovered fascinating facts about life in Antarctica, from the extreme temperatures to the unique ways animals survive in this icy environment. The highlight was getting hands-on with authentic Antarctic clothing and even sampling some of the food scientists and explorers take on expeditions.
The session sparked plenty of questions and excitement, giving pupils a real sense of what it is like to explore one of the world’s most extreme environments — all without leaving the classroom.
