At the start of the year, Year 7 pupils had the chance to explore the wonders of space with a visit to Alston Observatory.
Led by Charlotte, the group enjoyed an engaging talk covering all aspects of our solar system, from planets and moons to stars and comets.
Pupils experienced a range of interactive simulations and examined detailed telescope images, giving them a deeper understanding of astronomical concepts beyond the classroom. The session encouraged questions and sparked lively discussion about the universe, helping pupils connect what they have learned in science lessons to real-world observation.
The visit also included a tour of the observatory’s telescopes, where pupils were shown how these instruments capture images of distant celestial objects. Many were fascinated by the recent photographs taken on site and gained insight into how professional astronomers study the night sky.
