As well as our own year 6 girls we invited girls from local primary schools to come and join us in a fun, hands-on day of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities by taking part in the CREST Discovery Award. CREST is the British Science Association’s scheme for STEM project work that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. Developing investigative skills, working as part of a team and developing time management skills were all part of completing the Discovery Award and each child received an official certificate recognizing their achievements from the British Science Association. We were joined by a guest speaker Rachel from BAE who talked to the girls about different careers and routes into STEM, from her experience working with some of the world’s most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions. A fantastic day was had with lots of fun!
